One of our goals at The Deens is for the students to make the connection 'from me to the world' - to enable the student to see themselves in the context of their community, of their country, and then of the world, and therefore be empowered.
Children are empowered to realize how important their choices and behaviors are in creating the future. By interacting with guest speakers, attending events in the city and writing about issues that affect them, involving them in projects on conservation of water, presenting street plays on effects and reduction of pollution - an awareness is created in the children, thus helping them relate and find solutions to issues in the world around them.
Special Education
Some students, referred by the teacher, who need special accommodations to learn the general curriculum or have mild behaviour deviations or disabilities are referred to the special educator. The special educator helps to develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each student receiving special education, setting personalized goals that are tailored to that student's individual needs and abilities.
The Interventions are based on careful assessment of student needs. Interventions are monitored, and evaluations are conducted to ensure that the programs are meeting measurable goals and objectives.
Students who are within the purview of ‘special needs’ are then enrolled in the National Open Schooling curriculum, through the IEP instructor.
