Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten

The Kindergarten Program covers three basic areas:

Practical Life includes taking care of self, keeping one's work area clean and orderly, choosing a task and putting it away. Kindness and respect for others are emphasized.

Sensorial Experience exposes your child to a variety of colors, sounds, shapes, and textures through specially-designed materials. Three dimensional manipulatives strengthen and organize their perceptions. Our sensory materials provide a concrete foundation for abstract concepts at the same time that they educate the senses.

Intellectual Development includes working with materials which introduce children to writing, math concepts, reading, geography, music and art.

This method of education tends to develop the following attributes in children.

  • Self discipline
  • Respect for others
  • Patience and the ability to share
  • Independence
  • Good work habits
  • Care and respect for the environment and others
  • Self confidence and self reliance
  • The desire to make a difference in the world

Learning Centres
The Deen’s has also incorporated the concept of ‘learning centres’ in its kindergarten programme.

  • Learning centres are a means of providing an active, self-selecting and problem-solving approach to learning.
  • In addition to providing for independent and self-directed learning, learning centres enable teachers to plan activities at an appropriate level of difficulty for individual children.
  • Learning centres are used to introduce, reinforce and extend new skills and concepts.

They provide opportunities for children to use processes and develop concepts through concrete activities.
